CSE Student Organization Fair
Friday, Oct. 21, 2011
11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Keller Hall, Atrium

Free food from Qdoba and great prizes!

Organizations represented include student chapters of national professional science and engineering societies, student competition groups, service and leadership organizations, and more.

This event is hosted by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) University of Minnesota student chapter with support from the College of Science and Engineering.

ATTENTION CSE STUDENT GROUPS: If you represent a CSE student group and would like a table at the fair, you must register by contacting Karlo Malaga at mala0067@umn.edu. Please provide the following information: Student Group Name, email contact, and if you plan on competing in the group challenge or display competition. An email containing more detailed information was sent out last week to all student group leaders so check your emails for that.

Competitions
There will be two competitions taking place during the fair: display competition and group competition.

The display competition will be based on how each group presents itself at the fair. Factors include: 1) originality, 2) effectiveness of conveying what your group is all about, 3) group participation (the more, the merrier), and 4) overall look of your booth. Participating student groups will be judged by university faculty/staff. 1st place will receive $200 towards their student group and 2nd place will receive $100. SHPE UMN can provide groups with tri-folds upon request.

The group competition will be based on an engineering task. Groups will be required to construct a ‘rubber band car’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQIb94OrA6s&feature=related) using materials from Qdoba (the fair’s food sponsor). Judging criteria will include: 1) speed (groups will race their cars against each other), 2) efficiency (less materials used, the better), and 3) creativity/visual appeal. 1st place will receive $150 towards their student group and 2nd place will receive $100.

Prizes
Prizes will be awarded throughout the event at regular intervals. They will mostly consist of gift cards to various places around campus (Bookstore, Qdoba, Starbuck’s, etc.). There will also be one grand prize, which will be announced later on.

Volunteering
It would be great if you guys could help out at the fair. Anyone interested in volunteering can sign up here: http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/912345633708804043

Groups that provide the most volunteers will be rewarded with ‘VIP spots’ in Keller Hall where they can set up their booths.
